Several Massachusetts universities are among the nation’s best, according to the annual ranking from U.S. News & World Report.

For the second consecutive year, Harvard University ranked second behind Princeton University. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology tied for third, and 11 other local universities made the top 200.


“The rankings evaluate colleges and universities on 16 measures of academic quality,” according to U.S. News & World Report.

The marquee category, National Universities, assesses universities with a full range of undergraduate majors, master’s and doctoral programs. Massachusetts universities on that list include:
