The Association of Gender and Sexuality Studies honored Nina M. Scott, professor emerita of Spanish, on Sept. 28 with the 2018 Victoria Urbano Prize in recognition of her academic achievement and mentoring.
The award was presented to Scott, who served as her department’s graduate advisor for eight years, during the association’s annual meeting at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Among those honoring Scott at the event were her former graduate students Yamile Silva, associate professor at the University of Scranton and president of the Association of Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Clara Ronderos, associate professor at UMass Boston.
Scott, who remains active academically, served on the faculty for 34 years until her retirement in 2002.
