– October was LGBTQ History Month, and alumnus Rodney Wilson (MA in history 1995) was featured in a piece about the beginnings of the event on the site LGBTQ Nation. Wilson was the driving force behind the first Lesbian and Gay History Month in 1994 and was the founder of the coordinating committee of the first Gay History Month Event, at UMSL.

– Chancellor Tom George and Provost and Executive Vice Channcelor Kirstin Sobolik appeared on the Oct. 3 episode of the St. Louis Public Radio | 90.7 KWMU show “St. Louis on the Air,” discussing the future of UMSL and its new five-year strategic plan.

– In the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Associate Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice Lee Slocum delved into the results of a study she led on crime enforcement rates in the city of St. Louis, finding that police are making fewer arrests for lower-level crimes and the racial disparities among those arrests are narrowing.

– Alumna Gloria Clark Reno (BA in English 1973) was featured in the St. Louis American after her appointment as the presiding judge of the 21st Judicial Circuit Court in St. Louis County, making her the first African American presiding judge in the court’s 203-year history.

Dave Robertson, Curators’ Teaching Professor and chair of the Department of Political Science, lent his expertise to numerous outlets concerning the midterm elections. Among them was a piece in POLITICO Magazine about how the geography and demographics of Missouri make it a curious state politically.
