FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton scored eight runs in the fourth inning to hand Dartmouth a 9-1 defeat in five innings Wednesday night at Anderson Family Field.
The Big Green finish its early season non-conference schedule with a 3-14 record and will now look forward to Ivy League play where they have found success in past years. The Titans improve to 19-10 with the win.
Schae Nelson belted her first home run of the season, it was one of two Dartmouth hits, Micah Schroder had the other with a double in the second. The homer was Sophie Frost’s only run allowed on the night, the Titan pitcher went four innings and struck out four batters. Taylor Dockins threw the final inning for Fullerton and did not allow a hit.
With one out in the top of the first, Nelson got all of the ball and sent it over the left center field fence for the sixth home run of her career, giving the Big Green a 1-0 advantage.
Fullerton tied the game at one in the third inning when Daisy Munoz singled up the middle to bring a runner home from third base.
The Titans broke the game open in the fourth. The home team sent 11 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on three base hits and three doubles, taking a 9-1 lead.
Dartmouth had a runner in scoring position in the top of the fifth, but could not score to extend the game.
The Big Green return to the east coast to begin their first Ivy League series at Columbia on Saturday. Games one and two in New York are scheduled for 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.
