BOSTON, Mass. – Boston University scored the first seven runs of the game and went on to deal Dartmouth a 9-1 defeat Thursday afternoon at the BU Softball Field. The Big Green (8-25, 5-10 Ivy) picked up their only run in the fourth inning, while the Terriers (29-17, 11-1 Patriot League) plated runs in every inning but the fifth.
Morgan Martinelli was perfect at the plate, going 3-3, and was responsible for the lone Big Green run with a solo home run with two outs in the fourth. Schae Nelson and Tatyanah Castillo each tallied a hit for Dartmouth. Despite drawing two walks, Micah Schroder was 0-1 on the day, halting her hitting streak at 10 games.
BU’s Ali Dubois earned her 20th win of the season in the circle. She hurled five innings with one earned run on three hits and struck out eight Dartmouth batters.
The Terriers struck for three runs in the first. With two runners on base, Madi Killebrew doubled home the first and Marina Sylvestri brought in the second with an RBI. The third run of the inning scored with some heads up base running on a throw from the outfield.
Two more crossed the plate in the second for BU on a steal of home and an RBI single. The Terriers then extended their lead to 7-0 in the third when a pair of sacrifice flies made it 7-0.
Martinelli put the Big Green on the board with a solo homer to left-center, it was her second home run of the season.
Another BU sacrifice fly brought the score to 8-1 in the bottom of the fourth. The ballgame ended in the home half of the sixth on a base hit by Killebrew, making the score 9-1, putting the run-rule in place.
Dartmouth resumes Ivy League play when they travel to Brown to start a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday. Game times are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
