Jonathan Salazar of Pauli Murray College, an Ethnicity, Race & Migration major, has been described as a leader, a friend, and a scholar. Arriving at Yale as a second-year student, with an acute understanding of what it was like to be new at Yale and seeking connection, Jonathan has had an outsized impact in the many roles he has played. He has served as a Peer Liaison for La Casa Cultural, as a member of Ballet Folklorico, MEChA, and La Casa’s Senior Events committee, and as one of the inaugural First-Generation Low Income Student Ambassadors. This year, he served as Head First-Year Counselor for Pauli Murray College. In all these roles, he has dedicated himself to making everyone feel welcome, connected and included. Following graduation, Jonathan will be returning to New Mexico to begin work as a paralegal while preparing for graduate school.
For his extraordinary service and leadership, Yale College is honored to award the Nakanishi Prize to Jonathan Salazar.
