Mumin Kurtulus, new faculty head of Moore College (Vanderbilt University)
Mumin Kurtulus will play an important role in expanding the undergraduate learning experience beyond the classroom as the new faculty head of Moore College. Associate Provost and Dean of Residential Faculty Vanessa Beasley announced Kurtulus’ appointment to Moore College—which houses sophomores, juniors and seniors—starting fall 2019.
“The teaching and research strengths of Vanderbilt faculty are key to building dynamic living-learning communities that foster learning beyond the classroom for our diverse student population,” said Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost Susan R. Wente. “Professor Kurtulus has demonstrated excellent teaching and mentoring skills that will be beneficial in his new leadership position within our residential colleges.”
Kurtulus, associate professor of operations management at the Owen Graduate School of Management, joined the university in 2005. He is an award-winning teacher who teaches in Owen’s MBA and Executive MBA programs. Kurtulus’ research focuses on retail supply chains and explores the effectiveness of various manufacturer-retailer collaboration practices in the consumer goods industry. He was born in Bulgaria, and lived in Turkey and France before moving to Nashville in 2005.
“As a faculty VUceptor, Professor Kurtulus has been a valued mentor for first-year students, and he is a great resource for our international students in particular,” Beasley said. “His perspective as a faculty member who is interested in business is also of significant interest to many Vanderbilt undergraduates. He has already made wonderful plans for the residents of Moore College, and I am delighted he and his family will join our growing community of residential faculty at Vanderbilt.”
