On Wednesday, May 15, 2019, the Katz School of Science and Health held its graduation ceremony at the Yeshiva University Museum. Graduates received degrees in management, quantitative economics, mathematics, physics, data analytics and visualization, enterprise risk management and speech language pathology.
The herald for the event was Dr. Nicolaas van den Heever, founding program director of the occupational therapy doctorate program. Dr. Selma Botman, provost and vice president for academic affairs, led in the processional as Chief Marshal. The invocation and benediction, given by Dr. Mordechai Cohen, professor of Bible and associate dean of the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies, bracketed speeches by Dr. Paul Russo, dean of the Katz School and vice provost; Dr. Ari Berman, President of Yeshiva University; Eva Varghese, MS in Speech-Language Pathology, Class of 2018, speaking on behalf of the alumni; and Sara Clarke, a student receiving her MS in Speech Language Pathology, Class of 2019, speaking on behalf of the students.
The keynote address was given by Cary Broussard, author of From Cinderella to CEO, which “applies the timeless wisdom of fairy tales to the modern world of work to offer guidance and insights to improve career satisfaction and success.”
Of special note was the donning of white lab coats by the 2019 class in the speech language program. Dr. Marissa Barrera, director of the program, who called the ceremony “a very special and beautiful event,” explained that the white coat “symbolizes their commitment to clinical service and marking the start of their professional journey.”
