PHILADELPHIA, Pa. â€“ Dartmouth women’s tennis had a good first day at the ITA Northeast Regional Championship, going 6-2 on Breast Cancer Awareness Day Friday.
“We had a solid day of tennis,” head coach Bob Dallis said. “We had good focus and we competed well.”
Freshman Ashley Hess and sophomore Nicole Conard paired up and went undefeated, first downing a pair from Rutgers, 8-0, before winning against their opponents from St. John’s by a score of 8-4. Junior Racquel Lyn and freshman Chidimma Okpara split, defeating a duo from Bryant, 8-3, but falling to a team from Army, 8-6.
In singles, Hess had a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Harvard’s Rachel Lim, while Lyn defeated Sarah Hickey of Bryant, 6-4, 6-3. Freshman Jennifer Gadalov won a close first set against Vitalina Golod of Sacred Heart, 7-6(7), and was able to hold on to win the second by a score of 6-3.
The Big Green will be back for day two of regionals on Saturday.
