Big Green Take First and Second to Start Head of the Charles

BOSTON, Mass. – Dartmouth heavyweight rowing competed for the first time in the 2019-20 season at the Head of the Charles on Saturday. The team had a successful day of racing against collegiate varsity and club teams from around the country, taking first place in the Club 4+ and second in the Club 8+.
 
The Big Green’s 4+ won with a time of 16.44.599 and led for the duration of the race. Dartmouth held a narrow margin ahead of Riverfront Racapture at the Riverside Boat Club (3.52.358). They then began to expand their lead at the Weld Boat Club (9.16.328) and led by over five seconds at the Cambridge Boat Club (13.53.787) to eventually cross the finish line in first place.
 
Dartmouth’s 8+ finished second among 39 boats with a time of 14.48.515. The Big Green were among the top three throughout the entire race, crossing the Riverside Boat Club (3.23.455) in third place. They then passed Navy to move to second at the Weld Boat Club (8.15.402) and stayed in second at the Cambridge Boat Club (12.17.183) before finishing second.
 
Dartmouth will compete in the Championship 4+ and 8+ on Sunday to wrap up the Head of the Charles.
