HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women’s soccer won in convincing fashion with a 5-1 result over Cornell on senior day Saturday afternoon. Scoring for the Big Green was Allie Winstanley, Bonnie Shea, Tracey Mills and Isabella Villaflor with an own goal sprinkled in as well.
The Big Green finish its season with a 10-6-1 record and now have back-to-back double-digit win seasons for the first time since 2005 and 2006. Ron Rainey also captured his 50th career victory. The Big Red conclude its season at 4-10-1.
“This was a great way for this team to end its season,” said Rainey. “Especially after facing some adversity with giving up a goal I really liked the way we responded and were able to get some quick scored.”
Dartmouth dominated all night, starting the game with the first five of six shots. The Big were finally able to break through in the 26th minute when Grace Rorke sent a long throw in from beyond midfield and found Winstanley who netted her 10th goal of the season and first in Ivy competition.
It did not take long for Dartmouth to score again. In the 34th minute, Erin Kawakmi sent a cross to Bonnie Shea in front of the goal and she pocketed her first of the season to make it 2-0 advantage at halftime.
Cornell made things interesting when Liza Mariner scored in the 71st minute, but it was all Dartmouth from then on out.
An own goal in the 86th minute that was pressured by Charlotte Esty capped off the night for the Big Green.
