The University Fall Commencement Ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m., Friday December 20. The Graduate School Commencement starts at 2:30 p.m.  Both will be held at Cassell Coliseum, 675 Washington St SW, on the Virginia Tech campus.

The events will honor approximately 2,551 students who completed their academic degrees during the summer and fall terms.

Virginia Tech will offer live streaming video of both ceremonies from the Virginia Tech commencement site.

Guidelines for media coverage

Media members planning to cover the ceremony are asked to RSVP to [email protected] by noon on Thursday, December 19.

Credentials will not be issued but reporters/photographers/videographers are asked to display a media ID badge.

No parking pass is needed and media outlets are encouraged to park in the Coliseum lot.

No filming or photography is allowed directly in front of the stage during the ceremony, with the exception of official university cameras.

Virginia Tech media relations will have representatives inside Cassell Coliseum to assist. On Friday, December 20, call Bill Foy at 540-998-0288 for assistance.

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather, ceremonies at Cassell Coliseum may be modified, rescheduled, or canceled. As decisions are made, the university will communicate them to students, faculty, staff, and others immediately using email, the university homepage, the university status page, and on official social media channels. Information will be shared with area news media outlets. The university may use VT Alerts depending on conditions.
