All-Time Series: First Meeting
Dartmouth men’s lacrosse will open its 2020 campaign on the road this weekend, heading to North Andover, Massachusetts, to face Merrimack. This is the first time in program history that the teams are meeting.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
A Division II powerhouse with two straight national championships under its belt, Merrimack made the move to the NEC ahead of the 2020 season. In its first game of the season, the Warriors dropped a nail biter to Holy Cross by a score of 13-12.
Merrimack will face some tough DI opponents during their inaugural season, including Michigan and Yale.
2019 IN REVIEW
Dartmouth went 2-11 last season, defeating Wagner easily (11-4) before taking down Binghamton (11-7) two weeks later. The Green kept it close in a number of games, narrowly falling to Bryant (5-6) and Hartford (11-12).
CALLAHAN AND CO.
Brendan Callahan is returning for his sixth season at the helm after being named the 10th head coach in the program’s 91-year history in August of 2014. He is joined behind the bench by associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Joe Conner, assistant coach Matt Dugan and volunteer assistant Pierce Ellinwood.
CLASS OF 2023
Nine of the 43 players on the roster will be wearing the Green and White jersey for the first time. Making up the Class of 2023 are Tommy Rogan, Payton St. Geme, Mitchell Myers, Andrew Johnston, Brendon Gallagher, Brett Gallagher, Jackson McGinley, TJ Bryan and Reece Lagerquist.
Ben Martin will serve as captain, while classmates Jack Richardson and Albie Austin will be assistant captains.
In addition to the three captains, the Big Green will have squad leaders who are given extra tasks and duties to help lead the team. Serving in these positions in 2020 are Harlan Smart (head squad leader), James Sullivan, George Prince and Matt Paul.
AND IN NET…
All four of the Green’s goalies will be returning this season: Daniel Hincks, Alex Burnley, Jack Schifino and George Christopher. Hincks saw most of the playing time in 2019, playing 11 of the team’s 13 games.
UP NEXT FOR DARTMOUTH
The Big Green will play their home opener next Saturday against Bryant.
